Record of the week (aka not the Years of Refusal review)

At least once a week something hits the radar that becomes my new favourite record of the week ™. And this week I stumbled across the latest single from Dallas band the Secret Machines, which is so my new favourite record of the week ™ that it might just sneak into 2009’s festive think of a number poll ™.

You know when you’re hit with something, when you’re suddenly freezing in the most delicate fashion, when the hairs on the nape of your neck suddenly, inadvertently get into that whole standing erect thing. This week I’ve been blessed; firstly an astonishing track from the new Morrissey album Years of Refusal (review in the next few days), and then came Atomic Heels. It’s a very new-wave Texan record, the flavour of the Thirteenth Floor Elevators covering a Dandy Warhols track.

The band’s eponymous album was released late 2008, and is available on Reprise

The video’s pish, mind.
